Move Personal OneNote 2016 Notebooks to Onedrive

Overview

Due to Microsoft ending Security Updates for OneNote 2016, SPU will be moving to OneNote for Windows 10. In order to use OneNote for Windows 10, all notebooks must be stored on Onedrive or SharePoint. This means all of the personal notebooks that are stored locally on a workstation must be moved to your SPU-provided OneDrive. The instructions below will outline the steps required to migrate OneNote 2016 notebooks to OneDrive for Business.

All personal notebooks must be moved to OneDrive for Business otherwise the data will be lost as OneNote 2016 will be pulled from all computers on campus and will not be available for download in January 2020

Before starting, make sure the notebooks you intend to move are in your OneNote Notebooks folder in your Documents.

The Notebook should be in a folder with the same name, which in our case is Important Notebook

In OneNote for Windows 10, open the notebook dropdown

Click More Notebooks...

Select the notebooks that say (On this Computer) and click Open

Make Sure you are uploading to the correct account and click Upload

Check to make sure the notebook is uploaded by opening it in OneNote for Windows 10

Delete the OneNote 2016 notebook in question from your OneNote Notebooks folder in your Documents

If you do not delete the original notebook there is a chance for confusion and may create issues with file syncing across computers
