Clean Up System Files
System Files are temporary files often used by Windows to keep a computer system running smoothly. These files include temporary internet files, log files, files in the recycle bin, and restore points.
Free Disk Space by Removing System Files
- Open the Start Menu and click All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->Disk Cleanup.
- Select a drive to clean; this is usually the C: drive.
- Click the Clean up System Files button. You will need to choose a disk drive to clean again.
- Select/deselect files that should/should not be removed. Click OK to continue.
- Click Delete Files to proceed with cleaning up system files.
- A progress dialog will show the progress of cleaning system files.
- Click Cancel at any time to cancel the cleaning of system files. The window will close automatically when the file removal is complete.
