With Fall right around the corner, here are some exciting training opportunities, new applications, updates on prior technology issues, and policy reminders for us all to keep in mind as we march toward another quarter of mostly remote learning and working.

Fall Technology Training Day - Aug 19th

We would love to see you at the virtual CIS Training Mini Conference on Wednesday, August 19, 2020. There are relevant training sessions being offered on several of the topics in this blog post that will be about 30-45 minutes in length with time for questions and feedback. Due to COVID-19, the HelpDesk is restricting in-person support and equipment pick-ups/drop-offs to appointment only. Phone and email support are available during our normal business hours.  Please submit a ticket to request an appointment.

Office Hours and Online Appointments with Microsoft Bookings 

Allow others to easily view your availability and schedule appointments online with Microsoft Bookings, CIS's preferred alternative to Calendly Pro. CIS is offering introductory training on Microsoft Bookings August 19th.  RSVP here . DropBox and Google Drive Usage for Work

This is a friendly reminder that DropBox and Google Drive should not be used to store University documents and data. Storing regulated data on these platforms is unlawful. The University provides OneDrive for Business and SharePoint for protected cloud file storage. Refer to this article on Regulated Data for an overview of how to steward SPU's confidential and institutional data. CIS is offering an introduction and training on OneDrive for Business and SharePoint on August 19th.  RSVP here .

Campus Phone Transition to Microsoft Teams Calling

It was announced in the previous technology blog post from June 11th that SPU is transitioning from our current legacy phone system to Microsoft Teams Calling. In anticipation of this switch, on August 19th CIS is offering a training session on Microsoft Teams and VoIP calling.  If you would like a sneak peek into SPU's upcoming new phone system, have any questions about the transition to VoIP, or would like to learn best practices in Microsoft Teams, this is the training session for you. Microsoft Teams Performance Update

CIS is working to resolve ongoing performance issues affecting some Microsoft Teams meetings. These issues are originating on-campus, impacting meetings with several on-campus attendees, and have no effect on Microsoft Teams performance off campus.
