Overview

Accessibility is important to ETM.  We try to ensure that the systems selected meet WCAG 2.0 web standards or are striving to meet those standards.

Below is some basic information about the systems ETM Administrates with information about how each company treats accessibility.

Canvas

"Ensuring an accessible and pleasant experience to all users, regardless of disability, is a key focus of Canvas. The Canvas platform was built using the most modern HTML and CSS technologies, and is committed to W3C's Web Accessibility Initiative and Section 508 guidelines.

The Voluntary Product Accessibility Template, or VPAT, is a tool that administrators and decision-makers can use to evaluate Canvas' conformance with the accessibility standards under Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. View more information about the Canvas Voluntary Product Accessibility Template

General accessibility design guidelines can be found in the General Design Guidelines for Accessibility lesson (accessibility document).

You can read more about the most recent accessibility and feature enhancements in the Canvas Product Release Notes. If you have additional suggestions, please contact accessibility@instructure.com."

More information may be found on the Accessibility Within Canvas page.

Panopto

"Panopto helps organizations achieve compliance with federal accessibility requirements for online video. Panopto gives you options for adding captions to your videos, whether they need to be 504 or 508-compliant to support differently abled students or you simply want to help improve comprehension and retention during employee onboarding.

Users watching a live event that’s broadcasting over RTMP can now see live captions for any RTMP stream containing CEA-608 or CEA-708 style captions. After the broadcast is over, Panopto uploads a recording of the live webcast with the captions to your organization’s secure video library.

Variable speed playback (VSP) allows viewers to speed up or slow down video playback to better match the pace of the content presented to their personal needs. Viewers can slow down the video to half its original speed (0.5x) or speed it up to twice original speed (2.0x) in Panopto’s interactive, embedded, and mobile video players.

Navigate the Panopto video platform with just a keyboard. Users who are visually impaired or who have motor disabilities can access all of Panopto’s functions with the tab key."

More information may be found on the Video Captioning and Accessibility page.

At Turnitin, we aim to conform to WCAG 2.0 AA standards of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. But, we believe that accessibility standards are more than checklists, and are working to make our learning technologies easy to use and accessible by everyone regardless of disability or circumstance."

We have formed a central accessibility team with a mandate to monitor the state of accessibility of Google products and coordinate accessibility training, testing, and consulting. Product teams will be offered training to help incorporate accessibility principles into the design and release of products.
