Connecting Panopto to Canvas

Overview

Panopto recordings and webcasts automatically publish to the associated Canvas course, and can also be embedded directly into a Canvas page by an instructor.  Once a student or faculty member logs into Canvas, they’ll automatically login to Panopto as well. And with rolling synchronization, Panopto always references your current class lists to understand which students have access to each class.

If you choose a different folder from the one the Canvas/Panopto integration has automatically created for you in Panopto (browse → Canvas → Your course Number and Name), make sure you change your sharing settings on the folder to include your students, otherwise, you will receive many email requests from students to view your videos.

Why do we need to connect Panopto to Canvas?

Integrating Panopto with Canvas makes the technology transparent where students can just click a link or download a video podcast to watch later, independent of where they are or what device they are on.

Other reasons include:

  • Students can easily watch videos and record assessments.

  • Easy provision and publish course video content.

  • Help students study smarter.

  • Record, upload and manage video content.

  • Canvas Gradebook integration.

  • Single sign-on with rolling sync.
