Assessment of Student Performance

Written Assignments

The FCA will review, grade, and provide feedback on the student’s written assignments in Canvas.  See "Evaluation" for information on Formative Evaluation.  The FCA is responsible for the following assignments: 

  • Weekly Learning Goals and Self-Reflections 
  • Clinical Documentation and Self-Critiques 
  • Mid Quarter Self Evaluation of Clinical Competency  

Instructions for Grading Assignments in Canvas:   

  • Log in to Canvas using your SPU email and password 
  • Select NUR 793_: Advanced Practice Clinical Practicum  
  • Open Assignments to review the assignment instructions and grading rubric 
  • Open SpeedGrader to view the student’s assignment submission 
  • Provide feedback and a grade using the Assignment Rubric 
  • Provide comments on things done well 
  • If points are deducted, provide comments on areas for improvements and suggestions for the future. 

Faculty Clinical Assessor Evaluation

The FCA will complete an evaluation of the student’s clinical competencies in Typhon at the end of the quarter.  The evaluation is based on the FCA’s observations during the site visit; feedback from the preceptor; discussions with the student; and review of the student’s goals, reflections, and assignments.  See "Evaluation" for information on Summative Evaluation.  

Instructions for Completing an Evaluation in Typhon:   

  1. Log in at https://www.typhongroup.net/spu  
    1. Choose NPST-Nurse Practitioner 
    2. Choose Sub-Administrator Login 
    3. Account Number: 3057 
    4. Email Address: your SPU email address (including @spu.edu), unless otherwise determined by SPU NPST Typhon Administrator 
    5. Password: you will set your own password for your Sub-Administrator account.  You can use the “Forgot password?” link to set/reset your password, or contact the SPU NPST Typhon Administrator. 
    6. Click “Log In” 
    7. If you have difficulty logging-in, please email  harrij8@spu.edu   for assistance
  2. Select “EASI: Evaluation & Survey Instrument” from the main menu 
  3. Select the relevant survey (currently titled NP End of Quarter Evaluation: FCA) 
  4. Select the student you are evaluating, then click “Being New Survey” 
  5. Respond to each question in the survey.   
    1. Click “Submit Survey” when you have finished 
    2. You may choose “Save progress and exit” to return later.  Your response will been saved in progress, but your evaluation will not be officially submitted. You can finish it later by going back to your survey list and resuming the item in progress. 
  6. If you have additional students to evaluate, return to the EASI menu and repeat steps 3 through 5. 
  7. Evaluations will be reviewed by course faculty through Typhon.  Evaluations will also be saved to the student’s permanent file at the end of the quarter.
