Overview
CIS is committed to tracking call quality issues in Microsoft Teams and making improvements to the on-campus network and SPU-managed devices to ensure that Teams calls are running as smoothly as possible. Even though improvements are made on a regular basis, you may still experience call quality issues for a very small number of calls. This article covers troubleshooting suggestions that may improve your call quality.
Report Your Call Quality Issue
If you experience poor quality during a call, report the issue at the end of your call. Call quality reports go to CIS and provide us with valuable data that can be used to improve service.
- At the end of your call, Teams will ask you to rate your call quality. Choose a rating between 1-5.
- If you choose poor quality, follow the prompts on-screen to send feedback.
Make Sure Teams is Up to Date
Update Teams on your computer to ensure that you are using the most compatible version of Teams.
- From the Teams app, click on your profile picture on the top-right.
- Click Check for Updates.
- Allow Teams to update in the background. Teams may automatically close and re-open to install an update if one is available.
Replace SPU VPN with Fortinet VPN
If you are working from home and connecting to the SPU VPN during Teams calls, CIS recommends switching to the new Fortinet VPN. This new VPN is designed to route Teams Calls in the most efficient way possible to reduce the possibility of call issues related to the VPN.

When making Teams Calls from off-campus, the local network environment can still impact call quality. If you experience network issues at home, contact your Internet Service Provider.
