Expiring Microsoft Groups
Expiring Microsoft Groups
Overview
Since anyone can create a Microsoft 365 group, we want to make sure we remove old unused groups after a period of time. If a group has been inactive for 180 days, it will be automatically deleted. The owner of the group will be notified on day 150 to let them know of the expiring group.
In teams you may see something like this in your Activity feed:
What do I do?
To renew a groups expiration clock, simply interact with the group in some way. In Microsoft Teams, sending a message will work. In SharePoint, performing a file action will work. In Outlook, you can join or edit the group. All of these will reset the expiration counter.
