Department Shares (formerly known as Matthew) are a collection of department folders on a file server managed by CIS, that allows departments or other cross-department groups to store and share files and folders with various users. This resource requires users to have an SPU Username and Password, and allows departments to grant both read-only access and write access to folders.
Accessing a department share may be done from a SPU-managed computer, by going to \\spu.local\depts\deptname\foldername. If you cannot access a folder you believe you need permissions to, contact the specific department, as these permissions have been delegated to a specific individual within the area.

Documents you create on the job that need to be shared with others in your office are classified as departmental documents. Make sure you store them appropriately so others can get to them! |
SharePoint
SharePoint is the primary storage solution for SPU departments and acts both as a file storage server as well as a workflow and collaboration solution. Talk with your department SharePoint and group managers about SharePoint and whether your job requires its use.
Having trouble finding the right SharePoint site for your needs? Are you a department manager who needs a new SharePoint site set up? Please contact cis-bst@spu.edu and we can help assess your needs and get a new site set up.
If you would like to share files from SharePoint, see our article on /wiki/spaces/CIS/pages/36144231
SMB File Share
There are a limited number of cases where SharePoint isn't a viable solution for department files (eg. SFTP-type traffic from an external source like the Department of Education, Tableau data sources). For these cases, we utilize a file share called 'SMB'. If you're having trouble with SharePoint, please contact HelpDesk. If you have a case that needs to be further assessed, or cis-bst@spu.edu for assistance. See more information about SMB File Shares
