Purpose

The goal is of Clinical Practicum is competent, safe practice as a new Advanced Practice Nurse.

Purpose

This synthesis course integrates Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) competencies for the post-Master’s board certified advanced practice registered nurse (APRN). Focus will be on the synthesis of the application of DNP competencies within the APRN specialty at an organizational level and the most advanced level of APRN practice. 

Competencies

Faculty will monitor student progress toward meeting competencies, which are as important if not more important than meeting minimum hours in clinical practicum.  Students who have not met competencies will not progress.

Progress will be monitored through:

  • Clinical evaluations through Typhon
  • Conversation with preceptors
  • Site visit observation

Practice Hours

For DNP students seeking who hold specialty certification a total of 1000 500 practice hours are required.

Synthesis Practicum Hours

Synthesis practicum hours must be with a preceptor in which direct patient care is provided to individuals, families, and populations in the population-focused areas of APRN practice related to the population role and foci.  720 260 hours minimum

  • 180 hours per quarter in Clinical Practicum
  • 210 in Immersion Practicum

Indirect Care

In addition to the direct care hours, other mentored learning experiences assist the student to achieve DNP competencies as outlined in the AACN DNP Essentials and are a part of the 1000 practice hour requirement and completed as an immersion experience.  280 240 hours minimum

  • 240 hours DNP Scholarly Project
  • 40 hours in Immersion
