Overview

At the end of the quarter, you will present your final work for Writing 1000 as a Portfolio. This portfolio for Writing 1000 will take the form of a webpage, using the WordPress page where you have been maintaining your Writing Journal Blog and paper Reflections all quarter.

The final portfolio will include the following:

  • one of the two major papers, revised
  • two or three of the shorter assignments, revised
  • a compendium of work that includes original drafts of all writing assignments with my comments
  • a Reflective Guide/cover letter that makes an argument for how your portfolio selections demonstrate the four course outcomes
  • peer reviews and any other rough drafts that illustrate your development and fulfillment of outcome four
  • select writing journal posts


Create Your Wordpress Site

  1. Go to WordPress.com
  2. Select "Get Started"
  3. Follow the steps to Create a site.
    1. Choose a simple design
    2. Choose one of the nine free themes

    3. For Step 3 (find a domain) please use the following formula: your spu email name + wi18

      Tip
      • For example, my SPU email name is: thansen3
      • In the "Enter a domain" box I will type: thansen3wi18
      • The first free option should be: thansen3wi18.wordpress.com


    4. Select the free plan
    5. Provide an email and create a password to finish setting up your site.
  4. Once you have finished creating your site, I suggest making your blog Hidden by going to Settings and, under Privacy, selecting Hidden (if you select Private you will need to approve access for me; this can be a hassle).  
  5. Please make a brief introductory post and share the link to Canvas below.
    1. You should share the URL provided under the Share tab in WordPress. If you copy-paste the address in the address bar, you are asking me to log in as you to edit the post in your dashboard, so please be sure to share the right link.
    2. Alternatively, you can select the link button and copy the URL provided there.
Tip

Be sure to Publish your post before sharing your link to Canvas.
