Designed For

No account is required to participate in a meeting.   An account is only required if one intends to be the host of a meeting.  There are two types of accounts available to SPU users:

  • Basic account allows you to host an unlimited number of meetings, up to 40 minutes in duration each, for up to 100 participants. (These accounts are unlimited.)

  • Licensed account allows you to host an unlimited number of meeting, of unlimited duration, for up to 300 participants. (There is a finite number of these accounts available; they are limited to faculty and staff.)

  • A Zoom Health account has all of the features of a pro account, but with the added benefit of HIPAA compliance. (These accounts are limited to approved faculty and staff.)

Getting Started

Acquiring a Zoom Basic Account

A Zoom Basic account is available to any SPU user wanting to use the service.  To create an account:

  1. Navigate to https://spu.zoom.us and click Sign In.

  2. Login with your SPU Credentials.

  3. You now have a Zoom basic account which allows you to host up to 40 minute group meetings (up to 100 participants).

Requesting a Zoom Licensed Account

Zoom Licensed (formerly Pro) accounts are for users who support Academic Class Instruction (e.g.: instructors and TAs/GAs). A Pro account will allow you to have meetings with up to 300 participants and are unlimited in duration. *If you have not created your Zoom Basic account first, requesting the Pro account will not work.

  1. Ensure you already have a Zoom Basic account by following the steps above.

  2. Login to Banner and go to: Personal Menu > Computer Accounts Menu > Manage Your Accounts

  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select “Zoom Video/Web Conference” from the drop down in the “Request Resource” section, then click Continue.

    1. Don't see "Zoom Video/Web Conference" in the list? You either already have an account or you may not be eligible for an account at this time.

    2. If you don't have an account, but need to request one, contact the CIS HelpDesk at help@spu.edu or (206) 281-2982.

  4. Fill in your supervisor and department information.

  5. For Access Level, specify that you need "General Faculty/Staff permissions".

  6. Once submitted the system will attempt to create your account immediately.

Requesting a Zoom Health Account

Zoom Health accounts are limited to Faculty and Staff who have been approved to use a HIPAA-compliant Zoom account by CIS and Risk Management. To learn more and for instructions on requesting an account, go to the Zoom Health page in the CIS HelpDesk Wiki.
