Overview

In Windows 11, you no longer need to download software from Software Center and can find and install apps from within the Microsoft App Store.

The Microsoft App Store on Windows 11 is a centralized platform designed to provide users with a convenient way to discover, download, and manage applications that are external to base SPU provided applications. The App Store offers a wide range of apps, including productivity tools, entertainment apps, games, utilities, and more.


Accessing and Navigating the App Store

  1. To access the Microsoft App Store:

  • Click on the Microsoft Store icon located on the taskbar.

  • Alternatively, you can search for Microsoft Store in the search bar and select it from the search results.

Upon opening the App Store, you will be greeted with the home screen, which features curated collections, popular apps, and recommendations. You can navigate the App Store using the following sections:

  • Home: Displays featured apps, collections, and recommendations.

  • Apps: Allows you to browse and search for apps by category, popularity, and more.

  • Gaming: Features a collection of games.

  • Entertainment: Features a collection of movies, shows, streaming services, and music.

  • AI Hub: Features a collection of AI-powered apps created by the developer community and Microsoft. It aims to guide users on how AI can leverage productivity and creativity.

  • Library: Displays installed apps with options to open, pin, or update.

Discovering Apps

The App Store offers various ways to discover new apps:

  • Featured Apps: Prominent apps highlighted by the App Store editors.

  • Categories: Browse apps by categories such as productivity, entertainment, education, and more.

  • Search: Utilize the search bar to find specific apps or browse by keywords.

  • Recommendations: Receive personalized recommendations based on your app usage and preferences.


Downloading and Installing Apps

To download and install apps from the Microsoft App Store:

  • Navigate to the app's page selecting the app.

  • Click on the Get button.

  • Once installed, the app will give you the option to open it from the app’s page. It will also appear in your Start menu and can be launched from there.

For quick access to your new apps, you can have the option to pin them within the start menu or taskbar. Simply right-click on the app and select Pin to Start or Pin to Taskbar.


Managing Installed Apps

You can manage your installed apps from the Library section within the App Store. Here, you can view available updates for your installed apps and manage app downloads and installations.

Uninstalling Apps

Open Settings:

  1. Click on the Start button in the center of the taskbar.

  2. Select the Gear icon to open Settings.

Navigate to Installed Apps:

  1. In the Settings app, click on Apps in the sidebar.

  2. Select Installed Apps.

Uninstall App:

  1. Find the app you wish to uninstall.

  2. Click on the Options icon (dots) and select Uninstall.

Settings and Preferences

The Microsoft App Store offers settings and preferences that allow you to customize your app store experience. You can access settings by clicking on your profile icon in the top-right corner of the App Store window.
