Overview

Many instructors are graciously willing to drop low scores for students taking their course. Doing so helps struggling students by helping them obtain a higher final grade in the course. Other instructors find it useful to also drop higher scores. Dropping grades within Canvas is not only fast, but helps keep track of all the changes done to student's grades. Overview

Canvas allows for both high and low scoring assignments to be dropped within an assignment group. This page describes how to use Canvas to drop grades as well as how to keep some course content to prevent particular assignments from being dropped within a group

How to Drop Grades

Dropping Grades is great to "give back" points to struggling students. Dropping the highest score may also be useful though it may change the grades of students in a different way. Dropping grades is the process of dropping a low scoring or high scoring assignment such as a quiz, exam, or homework assignment by changing the settings in the assignment group. Doing so through Canvas is the fastest method to help students in the course by keeping everything organized and keeping students informed. To drop either a low or high grade is the same and will be explained below.

(Low & High)

  1. Go to Assignments (Click on the "Assignment" tab on the course navigation located on the left side of the screen.)

  2. In the assignment group, select the settings icon (
