Conditions of Purchasing Your Used SPU Computer

If the position will not be refilled or rehired, or the computer is deemed eligible for replacement by CIS, then the device may be eligible to be purchased by the departing individual. 

When a faculty or staff person purchases their former SPU computer or a projector to use as a personal device, the expectation is that it will no longer be used in their capacity as an SPU employee. The In other words, the device is no longer supported by the University. For This means that for computers, a new operating system will be installed, institutional data is removed, and the hard drive is decrypted. SPU devices that have been purchased as personal devices may no longer be connected to SPU resources, and CIS will treat the device as such upon point of purchase. How to Purchase

Initiating the Process of Purchasing Your Used SPU Computer

When you come to the CIS HelpDesk to pick up your computer, also bring the following:

  1. Your used laptop & charger.
  2. A copy of the form attached here: Equipment Transfer Form 
    1. Have your name and your department head's name printed & signed at the bottom (CIS will fill out the top portion of the form).
  3. A check written out to Seattle Pacific University, or cash in the amount of the purchase price of your computer.

A CIS HelpDesk technician will prep your computer for you to begin using as a personal device and provide a time estimate for when it will be ready to pick up. They will also provide both your signed form and payment to the CIS HelpDesk Manager./Equipment

To express interest in purchasing your device and to initiate the process, first and foremost, reach out to the CIS Help Desk by emailing help@spu.edu to open a ticket. The HelpDesk staff will work with our budget manager to determine the cost to purchase your device, if its a nonstandard device, otherwise see above. HelpDesk Technicians will also assist with acquiring the necessary information, signatures and scheduling an appointment at the HelpDesk to purchase your device.

How to Purchase Your Used SPU Computer

  1. Make a HelpDesk Ticket.
  2. Bring device and appropriate power cables.
  3. A HelpDesk technician will prepare your computer for personal use. 
  4. When the computer is ready, the technician will schedule a pick-up time.
  5. At the scheduled time, please bring cash or check to pay for the device at its listed sale price.
    1. Please make out all checks to Seattle Pacific University.
  6. The technician will also have you fill out and sign an SPU Transfer of Equipment Form. 


How to Purchase Other Used Equipment (Projectors)

When you come to the CIS HelpDesk Help Desk to pick up your projector, also bring the following:

  1. Your used laptop & chargerMake a HelpDesk Ticket.

    1. Have your name signed at the bottom (CIS will fill out the top portion of the form).
    2. Department head signatures are not needed for the transfer of projectors.
  3. A check written out to Seattle Pacific University, or cash in the amount of the purchase price of your computer.

A CIS HelpDesk technician will grab a projector for you. They will also provide both your signed form and payment to the CIS HelpDesk Manager.
