Turnitin is a tool integrated into Canvas that contains many options for submission. Through Turnitin, instructors are able to check for authenticity, or plagiarism, as well as keep student submissions organized.

plagiarism detection software that can be integrated with Canvas. This integration allows instructors to create Turnitin assignments directly within Canvas, making it easy for students to submit their work and for instructors to access the plagiarism detection tools. When creating a Turnitin assignment in Canvas, instructors can sett due dates, choose submission types, and select Turnitin settings they want to use. Turnitin will run and provide a similarity report for each assignment to the instructor. Turnitin integration allows for grading and feedback within Canvas.

If an assignment is set toto allow any file type, Turnitin will accept any file that:
is less than 100MB
is less than 800 pages

Turnitin will not accept the following to generate Similarity Reports:
Password protected files
Microsoft Works (.wps) files
Microsoft Word 2007 macros-enabled .docm files
OpenOffice Text (.odt) files created and downloaded from Google Docs online
Document (.doc) files created using OpenOffice, as they are not 100% Microsoft Word equivalent
Apple Pages
Spreadsheets created outside of Microsoft Excel (e.g., .ods)
