1.24 Unauthorized Use of University Name and Affiliation

Employees are free to acknowledge their affiliation with the University. However, employees should not use the University’s name or the employee’s affiliation with the University in a manner that:

  • Indicates the employee has the authority to speak on behalf of the University if the employee does not actually have such authority;

  • Indicates that the University supports or endorses a particular position, cause, or statement, without prior authorization from University senior leadership; or

  • Indicates the employee is speaking in an official capacity as an employee of the University if the communication is for an activity that is personal or is otherwise not part of the employee’s job responsibilities.

For example, employees should not use University letterhead for personal correspondence, and employees should not use a University email address to conduct non-University business activities.

For further informaiton that provides guidance for those wanting to post displays and distribute materials on University property, see the University’s Display Policy.

Also, employees should refer any media requests for interviews, , or testimony statements on University matters or policies to the Office of University Communications.
