SPSS Statistics for Mac

System Requirements

  • Operating System: IBM SPSS Statistics 28 release is supported on Apple Macintosh MacOS 10.13 and newer.
  • Java JRE
  • Memory: 8GB or higher
  • Free Space on Hard Drive: 4GB or more
  • Resolution: 1024 x 768 or higher

Make sure that your Mac is setup to Install Software from Unidentified Developers.

The license for SPSS Statistics & Amos expires annually June 30th. The software will continue to work until July 31st. New versions are uploaded as soon as the license is made available to us, which at times can be late summer.

Steps

  1. Click the Download Now link on the SPU Download Center page. This will bring up a log in screen. Log in with your SPU Username and Password.
  2. You will be presented with a file download box. Select Save. Save the file to your desktop.
  3. Double click the file you downloaded "SPSSStatistics28.010.1Mac.zip" to extract the files.
  4. A new folder will appear immediately next to the icon named SPSSStatistics28.010.1Mac.  Click to open it.
  5. Click on the file Installation Instructions.pdf to obtain both the serial number and guide on the rest of the installation procedure.
  6. The software will be located in your Applications folder as SPSSStatistics.

SPSS Statistics v 29

When installing SPSS Statistics v 29, you may encounter an error message requesting to sign into the local server.

To bypass this, please follow the steps below:

  1. Download the libplatdeb.dylib file linked on this page.
  2. Close all instances of SPSS.
  3. Navigate to "/Applications/IBM SPSS Statistics/SPSS Statistics.app/Contents/lib/". You can do this by opening your Applications folder, opening the IBM SPSS Statistics folder, right-clicking on SPSS Statistics, clicking "Show Package Contents", opening the Contents folder, then opening the lib folder. 
  4. Copy the libplatdeb.dylib file you downloaded in step 1 to this folder, replacing the existing file, when prompted.
  5. Run SPSS 29 again, and it should launch successfully.
