Overview
Sometimes your instructor may ask you to upload a file (like a document) and include written responses to the assignment prompt. To submit both parts at the same time (your file and your text response) you can follow this tutorial to make a single submission using the Text Entry submission option in Canvas.
Your instructor will need to enable the “Text Entry” submission type in the assignment settings for this option to be available. This submission type does not support in-line comments from your instructor.
Open the Assignment
In the course menu on the left, click Assignments.
Click on the assignment you need to submit. Alternatively, you may also locate your assignment in the Modules area, and this depends on how your instructor has organized the course content
On the assignment page, read the instructions carefully so you know: What file(s) to upload, and what you need to write in the text response
Open Text Entry Submission Area
Click the Text Entry tab
Upload Your File(s)
In the same submission area, find the File Upload options and look for the document icon. Click the document icon, then choose Upload Document.
Type Your Text Response
Confirm that your file appear in the submission area.
Once your document is uploaded, you can type your text response in the Rich Content Editor to answer the questions or prompts related to the document.
Submit Everything Together
Review your text and files to make sure both are included.
Click Submit Assignment once everything looks good.
Check for the confirmation message to verify your submission.
