How to Restore Archived Panopto Recordings
Please note: When a video is archived, the permissions are kept intact, and as such, Viewers will only be able to see the archived videos they have access to and must be authenticated in order to view them. There is an automatic hold on re-archiving restored videos, which lasts 30 days from the time of the video's restoration. If the video is not viewed or edited in the 30 day period following its restoration, it will be archived again
Restore Archived Content from the Archive (for Video Creators)
- if you want to access the entire Archive, expand the System menu from the lower-left corner of your Panopto site, and then select Archive.
- From the Archive, select the Restore from Archive button that appears next to the video you want to restore.
- In the Archive, you can also:
- Search for videos in a specific folder by selecting the drop-down menu located to the right of Archived from.
- Sort the results by the video's Name, the Date it was created, and the Date archived.
If none of your videos are in the Archive, the page will appear with the message There are no archived videos.
Restore Archived Content from within a Folder (for Video Creators)
- You can access a folder's archived videos by by opening the folder and selecting the Archived button. Note: When this is selected, only archived videos will appear.
- Hover over the video you want to restore, which will appear with the archive icon overtop of its thumbnail image, and select the Restore from Archive button.
Restore Archived Content from Search
- If you are searching your Panopto site, you can include archived videos in your search by selecting the Include Archived videos icon, which looks like a file box, in the search filters. Note: By default, this checkbox will be deselected.
- Archived content will appear with the thumbnail image greyed out and the Archive icon over it. When hovered over, you can select the Restore from Archive button that appears underneath its title.
Archived content that is in the process of being restored will not show the Restore from Archive option but instead will display the message: Video restore from the archive started (archive start date and time). Video will be available for viewing in... with the time remaining until the video is restored.
- The video restoration will take up to 48 hours and will appear as it does in step 1.2.a., above, until it is restored. An email will be sent indicating that the video has been restored.
Restore Archived Content (For Viewers)
- If you attempt to view an archived video from either the Panopto Viewer or Embedded Viewer, the following message will appear: This video is archived and must be restored from the archive before it can be viewed. Restoration may take up to 48 hours.
- Panopto Viewer: This viewer will display the video's thumbnail on the left and the message on the right. Select the Restore from Archive button to restore the video.
- Panopto Embedded Viewer: This viewer will appear greyed out with the message displayed over top of it. Select the Restore from Archive linked text to restore the video.
