Fac/Staff Back-to-School

We are excited for the start of another school year and trust that you are as well! Here are some technology updates you may find helpful in your back-to-school preparation.

Office365: OneDrive for Business

OneDrive for Business - This resource provides a huge Internet-hosted storage location that is secure and reliable. It is accessible from any of your devices, on- or off-campus, and documents/worksheets can also be shared with others for group collaboration. SPU users get 1 TB (terabyte) of storage space -- or more if needed. OneDrive for Business is tied to your SPU Office 365 account and your SPU credentials (username and password).

CIS can assist you in moving your MyDocs folder to OneDrive for Business. This will put all of your documents and content in the cloud and more easily accessible from on- or off-campus and from any device. Please contact the CIS Helpdesk at help@spu.edu if you are interested in migrating your MyDocs.

Many other online services are also provided with Office365. The easiest way to see all of the services is to login to Outlook using SPU Webmail and click on the "Office 365/Navigation waffle" on the upper left menu bar. CIS HelpDesk documentation for Office365 is here.

Introducing Zoom

Through a licensing arrangement with the State of Washington K-20 Network, SPU faculty and staff have access to a limited number of licenses to the Zoom Video and Web Conferencing platform. Zoom allows online meetings (one-on-one, or small groups), instructional classroom meetings, and web conferences.

If you’re faculty and interested in using Zoom for a class, contact Educational Technology & Media (etmhelp@spu.edu) to learn how to integrate this tool into your course. More information on using Zoom for instructional use is here.

CIS is in the process of establishing an automated account creation process. In the meanwhile, Faculty & Staff who wish to have a Zoom account can send an email to help@spu.edu from their SPU Email address with the subject line: "Zoom Account Request". This will allow your request to be automatically routed to the proper process for approval. More information is here.

Personal Printing on Departmental MFP's

SPU provides a campus-wide copier/printer program for departments consisting of MFP's (multi-function printers) in all buildings. You can also use the MFP's for personal printing and pay with your SPU ID Card at the same costs as departmental printing.

  • Start by adding Falcon Funds to your SPU SeaPac Pass (your ID Card). Go to: http://spu.edu/depts/card-services/ for information on adding funds to your card.

  • When getting ready to print you simply select the option to "Charge to My Personal Account."

  • Document scanning is free and does not require print credit.

  • Instructions are posted at each MFP as well as on the CIS website at: MFP Functions.

Phishing Scams and Other Warnings

Phishing email messages are scams attempting to steal your username and password. PLEASE DO NOT reply to these messages or follow web links where you must confirm or enter your username and password. While many of these messages get filtered out of your INBOX some may get through. SPU will NEVER ask you to send or verify your login credentials or other personal/confidential information via email. Your account credentials should not be shared with anyone!

If you have questions about the legitimacy of a message, please forward it to help@spu.eduand we can assist.
