Accessing the Benefits Enrollment System

From the SPU webpage, select  from the top right-hand corner.

Log in using your SPU username and password.

If you are new or need help, select “New user?/Need Help?” located on the bottom right hand corner of the SPU Online Services screen.

Select "Employee Menu" > "Benefits and Deductions Menu" > "Benefit Enrollment."

Select the "New Hire Enrollment" link.

PLEASE NOTE: Firefox is not compatible with this system. You must use either Internet Explorer or Chrome.

Confirm Dependent Information and Begin Enrollment

The first page shows all employee and dependent information as it is currently recorded in Banner. If any changes need to be made, contact HR.

Once you have confirmed that all personal and dependent information is correct, select . This will take you to the "New Hire Enrollment" page:

Select the  button to begin enrollment.

Selecting Benefits

The "Enrollment Group" page lists all of the available benefits to select from:

Medical, Dental, and Vision

There are two medical plan options to choose from:

  • Medical with Health Savings Account
  • Medical with Health Reimbursement Account

Dental and vision only have one option each to choose from.

Once you select any of these, the different levels of coverage will be listed out:

Click on the corresponding button under the "My Choice" section, and then select "Add Choice." This will take you back to the "Enrollment Group" page. Please see the "Covering Dependents" section below for information on how to enroll dependents under these benefits.

Covering Dependents

Each time that you make your coverage elections for medical, dental, and vision, you will be able to designate which dependents are covered. Select the "Covered Dependents" link after each of those benefits for which you have made elections:

Select the "Choose Benefit" box next to the name(s) of any dependents whom you wish to cover on this particular benefit, and in the "Begin Date" box, enter in the date shown above as the Start Date. Then, select "Choose or Update":

You should see the message "Successfully Updated" if the submission was accepted by the system. Select the "Return to Enrollment Group" to continue.

Follow this process for all benefits for which you wish to cover dependents.

Health Savings Account, Flexible Spending Accounts, and Emeriti

For making personal contributions to the Health Saving Account, any of the Flexible Spending Accounts, and/or to the Emeriti Health Solutions plan, you will be able to enter in your per-pay period amount into the form:

Select "Add Choice" when you are done.

Submitting Enrollment

Once you have made all of your election choices, select the "Review Enrollment Summary" button. This will take you back to the New Hire Enrollment page, but now all of your elections will be listed:

  • If you wish to make additional elections or change any before the final submission, select the "Continue Enrollment" button.
  • If you wish to restart the enrollment process, select the "Cancel Enrollment" button.
  • If you are satisfied with the elections that you have made, select the "Finish Enrollment" button.

If you select the "Finish Enrollment" button, your final confirmation will appear:

The listed benefits are your current elections. For those benefits where dependents will be covered, the name(s) will appear in the "Covered Persons" table under each benefit.

If you are satisfied, select the "Confirm Enrollment" button. (PLEASE NOTE: You will not be able to make any changes to your enrollment once this has been selected).

You will see at the top of the screen if the system accepts your submission. You will also be able to print this confirmation for your records by selecting the "Print Confirmation" button.
