Micah Schaafsma

Micah is the Assistant Vice President for Information Technology, leading the Computer and Information Systems department at Seattle Pacific University in Seattle, WA. His service at SPU provides vision, direction, and strategy for leveraging technology and business intelligence to help students succeed and improve all areas of campus operations. Since joining SPU in 2004 as a software developer, he has held a number of roles, including Director of Software Systems, Director of Enterprise Systems, and Deputy CIO. Micah also serves as a member of the institution's Senior Leadership Council and the Core Support Operations Team.

In his time at SPU, Micah has focused on improving operational efficiency, organizational transparency, and on pivoting IT from a service provider role into a strategic business partner aligned with institutional goals and preparing the institution for the digital information age of the /wiki/spaces/DX/overview. Along the way, he has streamlined the IT department's operations, implemented DevOps/agile methodologies to improve efficiency, reduced service outages, increased IT project success rates, and improved outcomes through data-driven decision making.

In his spare time Micah spends time with his family, is an ambassador for ShelterBox USA, serves on the board of The Yarrow Project, and volunteers as a motorcycle track day instructor for Optimum Performance Rider Training.

Micah holds an Executive MBA from University of Washington, Michael G. Foster School of Business, and a BA in Computer Science and Systems from Seattle Pacific University.
