Software Center

The Ames Library has a number of Windows 10 computers on the Lower Level and Main Level that require SPU credentials (current student, faculty, or staff members). These computers have access to a number of applications including Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, and SPSS. In addition to the installed suite of applications, SPU users can install a number of additional software applications on-demand through the Software Center app. For example, if you need to use Minitab, you can launch the Software Center on the computer and install Minitab. Step-by-step guide

  1. Log in to the Windows computer with your SPU credentials (only accessible by current students, faculty, or staff)
  2. Click on the Start button
  3. Locate and open Adobe Premiere.
  4. Create a New Project
  5. Name the project and verify the location is on the correct hard drive.
  6. Under the Video Rendering and Playback setting choose Mercury Playback Engine Software Only as the Renderer.

  7. Select OK and the new project launches.
  8. Immediately Save (CTRL + S or File Menu) the project.
  9. Select File and Project Settings and General...

  10. Confirm the Renderer setting stuck. If no, choose Mercury Playback Engine Software Only again.

  11. Select OK.
  12. Save the project again
  13. Now try to import media footage.
  14. search box near the Start menu on the bottom left of the screen. Type "Software Center" to search for the app

  15. Click on "Software Center" to launch the app
  16. Once Software Center finishes loading (which may take up to 90 seconds), locate the application you want to install by scrolling through the list or searching (red arrow).\

  17. After locating the application(s) you want to install, click in the checkbox on the left of the application name to select it. Then click on Install Selected in the bottom right of the window. In this example, HLM Student is the app selected for installation.
